Puig. Handled superbly by Carlos, she finished her specials career as the #6 Wirehaired Dachshund in 2002. She came home following the 2003 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty where she was awarded an Award of Merit (AOM) at the host club's show. With some time off for puppies, Hazel continued to earn various Performance and Companion Event titles during the next few years. It was at the 2006 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty in Georgia that Hazel passed the Variable Surface Tracker (VST) test. Hazel was the first dog of any breed to pass a VST test in Georgia. I was so proud of her when she passed, being only the third Dachshund to pass this amazingly difficult test. She was also entered in the TDX test which was just two days later, but failed that test by turning off the track in a pasture where horses were grazing. In June of 2006, Hazel earned the final title she needed to launch her into the history books as the 6th dog to title in all Dachshund venues. At the 2007 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty in California, Hazel passed the Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX) test to become a Champion Tracker (CT) and Triple Champion (TC). It was a hot day. She drank two bottles of water along the track, which went through tall grass, short grass, across a paved road, down into a 12 foot deep ditch in the woods and back up the other side, and across a gravel road. After almost an hour of hard work on that track, she found the final article. |
