    Training Tips

  • Teach individual components

  • Short and motivational tracks teach your dog more than long, hard ones.

  • Keep it simple stupid applies to tracking too!

  • There is no right way, only the way that works for your dog

  • Motivation, not discipline makes for a happy tracking dog

  • Do not change the way you do things on test day. That means the way you read the dog, the harness, the lead ... if it was working yesterday, it does not need to be fixed today.

  • Play with your dog, it can not be all work

  • If your dog is having a problem, keep working on the problem. The problem will not magically go away by itself.

  • Work changes of cover

  • Teach your dog to start before wasting time teaching your dog to track.

  • Work in wind, rain, storms, hot sun and anything in between. It may not be perfect weather on test day.
